It is said that Eugene Schieffelin, the chairman of the American Acclimatization Society, decided to introduce to North America every bird species that was ever mentioned by Shakespeare in his works. He released over 60 imported starlings in the Central Park of New York city. So what has happened by releasing 5 dozen of these blackbirds in the 1800s? Now there are close to 200 million starlings and they are known to have become invasive species, driving the native ones to extinction. Here are three shining birds hanging out over the pine branches, planning and scheming of world domination.
